The POW-MIA flag was created in 1971 by the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia. It symbolizes the nation's concern and commitment to resolving the fates of Americans still missing or imprisoned, as a result of the Vietnam War. The black-and-white flag prominently features a white silhouette of a prisoner of war before a watchtower, with barbed wire and a guard tower, under the words "POW/MIA" and above the slogan "You Are Not Forgotten." The flag has since become a recognized symbol of the broader effort to account for all military personnel unaccounted for in conflicts.
